How to Smooth Uneven Skin Texture + Discover Glass Skin!

Flakes, pits, bumps, rough patches…..the causes of uneven skin texture is long and they all of these get in the way of a smooth, glowing complexion.

Here’s why your skin might look or feel a little rough.

Many skin conditions can lead to uneven skin texture - if you suffer from facial eczema or psoriasis texture and flaking are a daily occurrence.

Acne can of course distort the skin’s surface, whether its due a raised bump of an active blemish, or a pit from a past scar.

Keratosis pilaris is not uncommon on the face (known as keratosis pilaris rubra facieii) and may be mistaken for acne or rosacea.

Finally, sun damage can show up as uneven texture as exposure to UV rays can lead to premature cell death, increased pigmentation and a rough, mottled texture.

With skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, there’s no substitute for medical help as prescription treatment can make a big difference, and help guide decisions on basic skincare support to reduce irritation.

So how can skincare help?

Tip 1

The most simple way to improve things is by using an exfoliant

Alpha hydroxy acids are one of the easiest active ingredients to introduce to your skincare routine for smooth texture and a radiance boost.

Try The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

Tip 2

Exfoliate with beta hydroxy acids if you're acne-prone

These oil-loving acids penetrate deeply into the pores to unclog and calm inflammation, so they’re perfect for reducing breakouts.

Try Flawless Neutralising Gel with 2% salicylic acid.

Tip 3

Try lactic acid if skin is sensitive

This hydrating AHA is great for dry skin that’s sensitive.

I like the Inkey List 10% Lactic Acid.

Tip 4

Add a retinoid into your routine

This clever multi-tasking family of ingredients speed up cell turnover, which leads to a smoother, brighter complexion. They also boost collagen, prevent breakouts and reduce hyperpigmentation. Take it easy initially - watch my Retinoid Revelations series on YouTube for how to do this safely.

I like Flawless Nightly Serum with 2% Granactive Retinoid.

Tip 5

Wear sunscreen every single day

This will prevent much of the daily UVA damage, which ultimately is responsible for as much as 80% of ageing. Reap the benefits in terms of skin texture for decades to come.

I like Flawless Daily Sunscreen, Cerave SPF 50 and Neostrata Sheer Physical Protection SPF 50.
