FAQs

What is Hyperpigmentation?

Literally meaning ‘more colour’, hyperpigmentation is caused by excess melanin in the epidermis – the outer layer of the skin.

It manifests as darker patches of skin, typically on the face, although it can appear anywhere on the body.

What Causes Hyperpigmentation?

There are several reasons why hyperpigmentation
might occur. Hyperpigmentation can sometimes be caused by an underlying issue like Addison’s disease, but the most common cause is sun exposure. This is
because, with prolonged sun exposure, your body will produce extra melanin to protect the skin.

However, you may find that new medications, a change in your hormones, skin irritation, or cuts and burns can also cause spots of hyperpigmentation.

How to Get Rid of Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is often harmless, but if you’re
looking for a more even complexion, we’ve got your back. The key ingredient that will help you here is azelaic acid, which is why our serums are packed
full of it.

The best way around hyperpigmentation is to protect
against it forming. We always recommend using a daily SPF anyway, but if an uneven skin tone is a particular concern of yours, this is more important than ever!
