Mole Removal

Mole removal can be carried out for both medical and cosmetic reasons, and is usually a straightforward, minor procedure. The key lies in a proper clinical assessment to determine whether the mole requires removal and, if so, by which method.

We strongly advocate for skin health vigilance. Any changing or atypical mole should be assessed by an experienced dermatologist—and our team at Dr Sam Bunting & Associates has the expertise to advise on whether a mole is safe or needs treatment.

How Does Mole Removal Work?

Moles are first clinically assessed to determine their nature.

If removal is advised, this is typically done under local anaesthetic using either:

Surgical excision, which involves cutting away the mole and closing the wound with stitches.

Shave excision, where raised moles are flattened to skin level.

All removed tissue is sent for histopathological examination to ensure an accurate diagnosis is made.
